The Sentencing Council for England and Wales is holding a public consultation on sentencing for sexual offences.
The consultation is seeking views on:
- the main factors that reflect the harm caused to the victim by an offence
- the culpability of the offender
- the additional factors that should influence the sentence; and
- the approach and structure of the guidance and how this should be tailored to different offences.
The deadline for responses to the consultation is 14th March 2012, and they are looking for views from those affected by, or concerned with sexual offences.
This is the first consultation on sentencing for sexual offences since the law for such offences was significantly changed in 2003.
