Tax workers to hold one-day strike in job cuts dispute

From BBC News:

Tax workers in Northern Ireland are set to stage a one-day strike in an ongoing dispute over job cuts.

The Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS), which represents 1,500 workers in Northern Ireland, has organised the walkout.

It is campaigning against the closure of inquiry centres and the loss of 2,000 jobs.

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) said it was disappointed by the timing of the strike.

It has been timed to coincide with the tax credits renewals deadline.

The PCS claims that years of job cuts have led to backlogs and the use of private debt collectors.

The action in Northern Ireland is part of a three-day walkout across the UK, which began on Wednesday with workers in Wales and north-west England.
